Maize Bogdren, The Wandering Light

Maize Bogdren, The Wandering Light is a character inspired by our very own collaborator John R.L. McNabb of McNabb Games.

Once a humble scholar-priest in a hidden chapel deep within the Shattered Highlands, Maize Bogdren’s life was defined by study, reflection, and a quiet devotion to both knowledge and spirit. But when the Reckoning began to consume Earth: 2250, silence was no longer an option. The chapel fell to raiders twisted by hatred and hunger, and Maize’s prayers were met only with ash. In that moment, his calling changed—he became not only a cleric of faith but a seeker of freedom, love, and inspiration in a world broken by despair.

Maize’s gifts are not of steel or brute force, but of mind and spirit. He carries with him a brilliance for problem-solving and an iron core of resilience and perseverance. Where others collapse under endless hardship, he persists, often carrying more than his share of the weight. His curiosity and learning drive him into ruins and forbidden archives, searching for truths that might heal both body and soul. Yet these strengths are marred by shadows. His deepest flaw is obsession—when he fixates on an idea, a person, or a cause, he cannot let it go. It consumes him until all else fades.

Blessed—or cursed—with the power of teleportation, Maize became known as the Wandering Light. He can vanish in one place and reappear in another, arriving at the side of those in dire need, or slipping into bastions of tyranny to free captives before fading back into the mist. His presence is fleeting, yet unforgettable, like a lantern glimpsed in a storm. Still, his brilliance is often dimmed by his own mind: his overthinking and anxiety paralyze him at critical moments, leaving him frozen when action is most needed.

Legends whisper of Maize appearing in the heart of the Ivory Spires, saving prisoners from Mage inquisitors with a single gesture. Others tell of him materializing in the desolate Glasswood Ruins, laying hands on poisoned soil until wildflowers began to bloom. Wherever he travels, he leaves no permanent mark, only a story of hope and the brief glow of hazel eyes shimmering like embers in the dark.

Yet Maize’s true struggle lies within. He yearns for love and connection, for someone or something to anchor his restless heart. He fights for freedom and liberation, knowing that no faith or people can flourish in chains. And above all, he seeks a legacy of inspiration, hoping his light will endure even after his body has vanished into dust. But his obsessions threaten to consume him—what if he is remembered not as a savior, but as a man lost in endless pursuits, undone by his own hunger for meaning?

As the Reckoning’s shadow deepens, Maize Bogdren remains in constant motion, a cleric who cannot rest, a soul forever searching. To his allies, he is a guide, a beacon, a brother in the darkness. To his enemies, he is a ghost that slips through walls and cages, unraveling tyranny with quiet resolve. To history, he may yet be remembered as The Wandering Light—a man whose flickering flame burned brightest when the world was at its darkest.
