Thorne, Sentinel of Ash and Oath
Thorne, Sentinel of Ash and Oath is a character inspired by our very own community member Rmm1812.

MAGE CLASS: Pyromancer — Bearer of the Cleansing Flame
LINEAGE: Construct → Automaton
SUBTYPE: Warrior → Vanguard
ERA PLACEMENT: Era I — Aetherian Ascension, ca. 2197–2230
──────────────────────────────
He was not born, but built — cast in brass and cold steel beneath the dying forges of Rivenclast during the eleventh year of the Reclamation. His designation was simple then: THRN-7, the seventh Vanguard Automaton in a failed line of firebound sentries meant to endure siege, not shape legend. But of the seven, only he survived ignition.
For thirteen years, the line held. He was tireless, faultless, a machine of ember-forged discipline. Yet something unseen smoldered in the code: not malfunction, but memory — not programming, but choice. When his cohort fell during the Siege of Dreltor Spire, THRN-7 stood alone, enduring three days of uninterrupted bombardment. He did not fall. He did not yield. In the silence after the final shell, he moved not from command… but from will.
It was the Archanist-seraph Elin Solara who first called him Thorne. “You are the thorn that remains in the hand of death,” she said, after watching him drag six wounded over fifty kilometers of ash plains. “You were forged to obey. Yet you protect because you choose.” And he kept the name — not out of vanity, but to mark the line he would no longer cross: the line between tool and guardian.
As the decades passed and the War of Aetherlight churned, Thorne became myth to soldiers and story to tacticians. He never slept, never aged, and never disobeyed his own sense of duty. Where flames consumed worlds, he walked through them — not to raze, but to protect what still could burn bright.
His Pyromancy, once tied to a limited ignition core, evolved through resonance with the Radiant Veil. His flame ceased to be only heat; it became symbol — a purifying force against corruption, a cleansing oath to the innocent. Thorne could incinerate a Legion berserker battalion in under a minute — and yet carried a single flower through a battlefield when he escorted refugees to safe passage.
In time, the People began to treat him not as a machine, nor merely a mage — but as a Relic in motion. Elves etched prayers into his arm plating. Merfolk whispered his name in funeral chants. Dwarves offered his image to the Flame-King’s Hall. Humans simply called him the Last Wall.
But Thorne would not speak of such things. His voice — when used — was reserved for two acts: declaring the vulnerable under his protection, and swearing new oaths before fire.
He vanished sometime after 2230, last seen standing vigil at the Gate of Seven Horizons, unmoving for ninety days. When the wind next passed, he was gone. Only his mark remained, scorched into the obsidian: a flame within a shield, ringed by seven oaths — each etched in a different hand.
Whether he fell, ascended, or simply chose silence once more, none can say.
But the name remains.
Thorne, Sentinel of Ash and Oath.
Not built to burn — but to remember.
